Last Sunday, September 22, the Aspar Circuit hosted the first initiation course for people with physical limitations, organized by Handy Riders School. The event was aimed at people with limb amputations, paraplegia and other physical limitations.
The day began at 10 am in the paddock, where an area was set up for the participants to have a first contact with the motorcycles. The participants practiced on different tracks, working on the control and handling of the adapted motorcycles.
One of the first to get on a motorcycle was Alex Pardo, who has a spinal cord injury. For his training, he used a motorcycle equipped with telescopic arms with wheels, which allowed him to maintain his balance until he was in complete control of it. Also among the participants were María Gómez, Mario Alfredo and Javier Cortés, all of whom are tibial amputees.
In addition, Alvaro Torres, a young man with cerebral palsy who dreams of riding a motorcycle on his own, also participated in the day. His passion for motorcycling was inspiring, and his dream is getting closer and closer to becoming a reality.
The event was attended by experienced Handy Riders riders, including Antonio Montoya, founder of Handy Riders Spain, Handy Spain champion for four consecutive years and European champion in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Also supporting the participants were Alex Carrato, a femoral amputee; Juan Manuel Ortiz, with a brachial plexus injury; and Jose Calderon, who has an arm amputation. All of them accompanied the new riders, sharing their experience and helping them to overcome the challenges of the day.
In the afternoon, all participants had the opportunity to enter the main track accompanied by instructors. At the end of the day, all the drivers were able to drive autonomously. At the end of the day, diplomas were awarded to all participants, recognizing their effort and evolution throughout the day.
The event was a resounding success, highlighting the unwavering dedication of the Aspar Circuit and Handy Riders Spain in their mission to promote inclusion in the world of motorcycling.
